SAP Fiori makes it possible to create business apps with an intuitive user experience that works across all devices. Using SAP Fiori design guidelines and tools, which are also in use at SAP, it is quick and easy to create and customize your own apps. These fit seamlessly with the applications offered in SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise software solutions. They can also be integrated with the Business Technology Platform.

Origin of development

In the past, SAP systems were often perceived as difficult and complicated to use because the user interface was not always tailored to users’ needs. As a result, many users felt overwhelmed and had difficulty finding their way around.

To solve this problem, SAP developed the “Fiori” user interface, which aims to meet users’ needs. Fiori is also designed to tailor applications to individual user needs and provides a user-friendly, intuitive interface. Applications are usable on a variety of devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones, and automatically adapt to different screen sizes and input capabilities.

Fiori can minimize training requirements for users because it is an intuitive and easy-to-understand user interface. With Fiori, users can then quickly and easily access the functions they need and better focus on their work without having to deal with a cluttered user interface.

The apps each offer only the functions needed to complete a specific task – and: last but not least, the apps should be fun to use.

What is SAP Fiori and the advantage of it?

  • Individually adapted to users
  • Intuitive operation
  • Access possible on all end devices and screen sizes
  • Simple implementation of the user interface

Less need for training and therefore lower costs

Fiori is therefore not a technology, but a design language. Technologically, the open standards HTML5, JavaScript and CSS form the foundation of SAP Fiori apps. Building on this, the User Interface Development Toolkit for HTML5 (SAPUI5), as an SAP-specific framework, makes it possible to develop applications that comply with SAP Fiori guidelines.

SAP Fiori 3 has been on board since SAP S/4HANA 1909. Technologically, this new version is very closely related to the SAP Fiori front-end server, often abbreviated as “FES”. Among other things, it includes the SAPUI5 library and the SAP Fiori Launchpad. The apps required for SAP S/4HANA are delivered with the SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA product.

Ways to integrate Fiori

There are two ways to integrate Fiori into your system. You can decouple the frontend technology from the core system and set it up as a standalone SAP system. However, SAP explicitly recommends embedded deployment, i.e. integrating the frontend components into the SAP S/4HANA system. Simpler user administration, automation during deployment and dependencies between the software components also speak in favor of embedded deployment.
